The highly anticipated World War II drama ‘Anthropoid’ - starring Irish actors Jamie Dornan and Cillian Murphy in the lead roles - has been sold to Bleecker Street at Cannes for US distribution.
Directed by Oscar and BAFTA nominated British filmmaker Sean Ellis and written by Ellis and Anthony Frewin, ‘Anthropoid’ is about the attempted assassination of prominent Nazi official Reinhard Heydrich. Heydrich was the head of the SS and was one of the main architects of the Holocaust - widely considered number three in the Nazi ranks behind Hitler and Himmler.
Operation Anthropoid was led by two soldiers (trained by British forces) from Czechoslovakia’s army-in-exile who were parachuted into their homeland to carry out the mission against the Nazi nicknamed “The Butcher of Prague”.
Charlotte Le Bon, Ana Geislerová, Harry Lloyd, Bill Milner and Toby Jones also star in the film which is produced by LD Entertainment.
Dornan has recently shot the third series of Northern Irish shot crime procedural ‘The Fall’ and upcoming roles include Irish siege drama ‘Jadotville’ as well as two ‘Fifty Shades’ sequels.
Upcoming projects of Murphy’s include returning as Tommy Shelby in the hit British gangster series ‘Peaky Blinders’ as well as being part of an impressive ensemble cast that includes recent Oscar winner Brie Larson in Ben Wheatley’s ‘Free Fire’. He will also reunite with filmmaker Christopher Nolan for a fifth time with World War II drama ‘Dunkirk’.
