Cannes has only just kicked off and there are already international distribution deals being finalised. IFC Midnight, who distributed Corin Hardy’s acclaimed Irish horror ‘The Hallow’ in the states in 2015, has acquired the North American and Latin American rights to ‘I Am Not a Serial Killer’.
‘I Am Not A Serial Killer’ made its’ world premiere at SXSW in March and received positive reviews with Variety writing that “O’Brien conjures an infectious sense of place on a small budget: dark but never dreary, haunting but oddly cheerful”.
The film is directed by Billy O’Brien and adapted for the screen by O’Brien and Christopher Hyde from Dan Wells 2009 novel of the same name. Nick Ryan of Floodland Pictures produced the pic.
Christopher Lloyd (‘Back to the Future’), Max Records (‘Where the Wild Things Are’), and Laura Fraser (‘Breaking Bad’) star in the feature, which charts the story of a teenage boy hunting for a supernatural serial killer in his snowbound Midwestern town.
The film shot in Minnesota in the US early last year with post-production taking place in EGG in Dublin. IFTA-winning DoP Robbie Ryan (‘Slow West’) shot the film with the Irish Film Board providing partial funding.
