Documentary feature film ‘Being AP’ which follows 20-time champion jockey AP McCoy in his final season has been picked up by US Distributor Entertainment One.
The Moneyglass Films documentary was part funded by Northern Ireland Screen as part of its Landmark Documentary scheme which sought to bring unique Northern Ireland stories to a wider audience. The critical acclaimed ‘Road’ (which was nominated for an IFTA earlier this year) about the Dunlop racing dynasty was also funded through the same scheme. ‘Being AP’ also received funding from the Irish Film Board.
Directed by BAFTA-winner Anthony Wonke (‘The Tower: A Tale of Two Cities’), the all-access documentary follows the 40 year-old who has notched up more than 4,300 wins, 700 falls, 40 broken bones and a BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award in 2010 across a near 25-year racing career.
Producer Nick Ryle said: “The opportunity to film with a sports legend such as AP McCoy while still performing at the height of his considerable powers is a unique and special one.”
The Moneyglass Films Production was made in association with Roads Entertainment and Partizan Films and in association with BBC Films and with support from the Irish Film Board, Northern Ireland Screen and the British Horseracing Authority/Great British Racing.
