Ruairí Robinson’s new film ‘The Leviathan’ has been acquired by 20th Century Fox.
The news comes hot on the heels of the film receiving backing from Neill Blomkamp (director of ‘District 9’ and ‘Chappie’) and Simon Kinberg (writer/producer of ‘X men) – who have come on board as producer and executive producer, respectively.
The film, which is supported by the Irish Film Board, is based on a script from screenwriter Jim Uhls (‘Fight Club’), with Nick Ryan, Robbie Ryan and Billy O’Brien of Irish production company Floodland Pictures on-board.
A proof of concept video released by Robinson has already amassed over 2 million views since its’ debut on March 16.
‘The Leviathan’ is set in the early 22nd century when people can travel faster than the speed of light due to the harvesting of exotic matter from the eggs of the largest species mankind has ever seen.
Robinson’s first feature film, ‘The Last Days on Mars’, was released in 2014. He was also nominated for an Academy Award in 2001 for the animated short Fifty Percent Grey.
