John Butler’s Irish comedy ‘The Stag’ has secured a number of international deals, including a US deal with Tribeca Films.
UK sales outfit Metro International are handling world sales for the project and has also signed a significant all-rights deal for the UK and Ireland with Arrow Film Distributors, who distributed ‘Love is all You Need’ starring Pierce Brosnan.
Produced by Rebecca O’ Flanagan and Rob Walpole’s Treasure Entertainment, ‘The Stag’ stars IFTA-winning actors Andrew Scott ('Sherlock'), Amy Huberman ('Threesome'), Hugh O’Connor ('Ripper Street') and is co-produced by Claire McCaughley. The film, which was shot in Wicklow, is written by Butler and Peter McDonald, and financed by the Irish Film Board, Windmill Lane and Treasure Entertainment.
‘The Stag’ has gained momentum since its deal with Arrow and its World Premiere in the Discovery section at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. The film closes the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival this weekend.
Additional sales for the film comprise Canada (TVA), Italy (Academy 2), German-speaking Europe (Drei Freunde) and Australia/NZ (Umbrella Entertainment). Further deals are expected to be announced soon.
‘The Stag’ is due to be released in Ireland on Friday, March 7th, and the trailer can be viewed below:
