Entertainment One Films (eOne) has acquired the US distribution rights to ‘The Grand Seduction’. The Canadian comedy premiered at the 2013 Toronto Film Festival five months ago and stars Brendan Gleeson (‘The Guard’, ‘Calvary’) in the lead role.
Don McKellar directed the film and Taylor Kitsch (‘John Carter’, ‘Battleship’) co-stars. Roger Frappier and Barbara Doran produced. eOne’s Mark Slone was Executive Producer with Jeff Sackman and Joe Iacono.
‘The Grand Seduction’ is an English-language remake of 2003 French-Canadian film ‘Le Grande Seduction’. The adapted screenplay was written by Michael Dowse and Ken Scott (whose recent credits include ‘Delivery Man’ featuring Jack Reynor).
The film is about a small town that needs a doctor to reside in the community so an economy-boosting petrochemical plant can move in. When one comes along (played by Kitsch), the townspeople are led by unemployed fisherman Murray French (Brendan Gleeson) to convince the doctor that their town is a haven.
Entertainment One Films aim is a theatrical release in summer 2014. eOne already holds the rights to the film for distribution in Canada and the UK.
The deal was negotiated on behalf of the filmmakers by Executive Producer Sackman with eOne’s Richard Rapkowski.
The star of the film, Dublin-born Brendan Gleeson, is renowned for international productions such as ‘Troy’ and ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ as well as national productions ‘The Guard’ and ‘Calvary’.
