Universal to release Ruairí Robinson's debut feature.
Irish director Ruairí Robinson’s highly anticipated feature film ‘Last Days on Mars’ is set to be released Friday April 11.

Produced by Fantastic Films and Qwerty Films with Irish Film Board funding, the film stars Liev Schrieber in a tale of astronauts sent to collect specimens on Mars who encounter a terrifying force.

The crew discover fossilized evidence of bacterial life, which leads to disaster when one of the crew members falls into a sinkhole and becomes infected with the alien life-forms.

The sci-fi horror film has already gained international success when it was chosen for the prestigious Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival last year and was consequently picked up by US distribution company Magnet, the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures.

‘Last Days on Mars’ showcases the excellent creative skills of Ruairí Robinson as a director of a large-scale sci-fi movie. James Hickey, Chief Executive of the Irish Film Board previously applauded Mr Robinson’s arrival as a major international director.

The film stars Liev Schreiber (‘Scream’, ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’); Elias Koteas (‘Shutter Island’, ‘Crash’); Romola Garai (‘One Day’, ‘Atonement’); Olivia Williams (‘An Education’, ‘The Sixth Sense’); and Tom Cullen (‘Downtown Abbey’).

Producers Brendan McCarthy and John McDonnell of Fantastic Films commended the director and crew on a terrific job. McDonnell told IFTN: "We are delighted to be involved with Irish Talent Ruairi Robinson's debut feature and look forward to bringing this exciting film to his home audience."

‘Last Days on Mars’ was shot by award winning Irish cinematographer Robbie Ryan and scripted by Clive Dawson, with post-production handled by Irish VFX house Screen Scene.

Ruairi Robinson was nominated for an Oscar in 2002 for his Irish Film Board-funded animated short ‘Fifty Percent Grey’.
