Irish film ‘Bloom’, released to cinemas in 2003, has today been launched on VOD (Video On Demand) making it available on iTunes, Google Play and Amazon Instant Video for the first time.
Directed by Sean Walsh, ‘Bloom’ is a feature based on James Joyce's classic Ulysses detailing one day's journey in the life of Leopold Bloom. The film stars Academy Award nominee and recent IFTA winner Stephen Rea (‘The Crying Game’, ‘The Honourable Woman’), Angeline Ball (‘The General’), Hugh O'Conor (‘The Stag’) and Patrick Bergin (‘Patriot Games’).
‘Bloom’ was acclaimed upon release with The Sunday Independent describing it as "Quite Brilliant". It was also called "Bawdy, Irreverent, Lyrical" by The Sunday Tribune and "Vigorous, Musical and Modern" by The Sunday Times.
Angeline Ball, in particular, earned wide acclaim, winning a Best Actress IFTA for her portrayal of Molly Bloom. The film was nominated for three further IFTA Awards in the categories of Best Cinematography (Ciarán Tanham), Best Costume Design (Tara Van Zyl) and Best New Talent (Sean Walsh).
‘Bloom’ was produced by Odyssey Pictures and was co-funded by the Irish Film Board.
