Irish Web Series, ‘Cuckoo’, receives International Web Award

The Zanzibar production wins Writing Award for Nikki Racklin.

The Irish production received three nominations for Best Directing in Drama (Danann Breathnach), Best Female Performance in a Drama (Pagan McGrath) and Best Writing in Drama (Nikki Racklin). Racklin won for Best Writing.

The 2014 International Academy of Web Television Awards took place at the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The International Academy of Web Television is a non-profit organization which strives for ‘web video excellence’ and is ‘dedicated to the advancement of web television as well as furthering the common good and general welfare of industry professionals.’

‘Cuckoo’ is a thriller that follows the dramatic and traumatic adventures of sixteen-year old Niamh Keegan. The web series is 28 minutes long and has also received a nomination for Best Online Drama at the 2013 Webby Awards. It has been screened in Melbourne, New York and Marseilles.

The start-up funding for the production of ‘Cuckoo’ was given by RTÉ. It was produced by Marie Caffrey at Zanzibar Films, who attended the Awards ceremony.

Caffrey said the team was “delighted” to receive the award, and that they were “very lucky.” She also expressed gratitude towards the International Academy.
