A conference exploring new and future trends in the audio visual and digital media sectors is to be held in the Connemara Coast Hotel this Thursday, November 21st.

Organized by Údarás na Gaeltachta in association with Gréasán na Meán Skillnet, 'The Digital Age and The Future' will forefront changing broadcast models and the challenges inherent in working within a minority language, bringing the collective experience of both national and international speakers to the floor.

Speakers set to attend include Glen Killane of RTÉ, Owen McArdle of TV3, Michéal Ó Meallaigh of TG4, Damien Mulley of Mulley Communications, BBC Alba's Alan Esslemont and Dafydd Rhys of Welsh broadcaster S4C.

Tasked with the economic and cultural development of the Gaeltacht, Údarás na Gaeltachta aims to nurture enterprise development in the region, this latest endeavour into digital media inspired by the increasingly diverse range of production ongoing in the region with each passing year.

Údarás Chief Executive Steve Ó Cúláin spoke of the conference, saying that both Údarás na Gaeltachta and Gréasán Na Meán Skillnet have "had an integral role in developing the audio visual sector in the Gaeltacht for the past 25 years and this sector now employs over 350 people full time throughout the Gaeltacht."

Skillnet manager Christine Ní Concubhair elaborated, saying: "This conference presents an opportunity to anyone working in the audio visual sector to find out more about international trends in the sector."

The Gréasán na Meán Skillnet is funded by member companies and the Training Networks Programme, an initiative of Skillnets Ltd supported through the National Training Fund by the Department of Education and Skills.

The conference will place on Thursday November 21st in the Connemara Coast Hotel, Na Forbacha. Registration begins at 9.30, with the event itself running from 10am - 5pm. For more information, visit the Skillnet website.
