Nemeton TV & WIT Students Win Best TV Doc/Drama in Irish at Smedias 2017

Nemeton TV students with their course leader and winning award
Nine students of the Higher Diploma in Television based in Nemeton TV in Gaeltacht na nDéise had their projects nominated at the recent Student Media (Smedias 2017) Awards. With one project titled 'Deireadh Ré', winning the overall award for Best Television Documentary or Drama in Irish.

The winning project Deireadh , told the story of five generations of women who have run the famous music pub Mooney's in an Rinn. The film was directed by Ros na Rún’s Ailbhe Nic Dhonncha from an Rinn and edited by Ailbhe Courtney.

Other nominated films from the Higher Diploma course, recognised as being of the highest quality included the following;

 Jim of the Mills by Deirdre Orme and Pat Lacken, a celebration of an unusual rural Tipperary pub that only opens once a week for a music session.

In O Chraobh go Craobh Director Ciara Malone and Editor Maitiú O Casaide go on a journey of discovery to Connemara with traveller singer Tomás McCarthy and sean nós singer Ailbhe Níc Dhonncha.

In Crúib agus Croí,  Nemeton TV  Editor Yvonne Weaver explores the lesser known world of Point to Point racing in the South East.

Sarah McCoy’s Éitilt gan Sciatháin explores paramotoring across two continents.

And finally, hurler Cian O Halloran looks at the success of the Under 21 Waterford team in Ó Lads go Fir. 

Nemeton TV’s postgraduate Higher Diploma in Television Production is accredited by Waterford Institute of Technology and backed by Údarás na Gaeltachta.

It is widely regarded as the most industry-focused course in the media sector. The core belief is that third level courses are relevant, dynamic and genuinely prepare students for industry.

 Whether students plan to be in front or behind the camera the course is there to help and equip them with the skills needed for the media industry.

This course runs from September 2017 to May 2018.
