The Late Late Toy Show Returns
01 Dec 2016 :
Excitement is building for one of Ireland’s biggest TV events of the year, ‘The Late Late Toy Show’, returns with host Ryan Tubridy kicking the festive season off with a show set to feature the most ambitious opening number in its 40-plus year history this Friday from 9:35pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.

Ahead of ‘The Late Late Toy Show’, Ryan Tubridy said: “One of the great things about The Late Late Toy Show is that it’s the one night when we can collectively forget all the doom and gloom in what has been a very weird year. The fact that it is available to watch free across the world means that Irish emigrants get a chance to connect with their home in a way that is absolutely unique to us as a people. Nobody else would understand what this bonkers show is about!”

The theme remains a secret until but Toy Show producers have promised that this year’s spectacular is going to be something to behold. In fact, it is so big that they have had to draft in students from IADT Dun Laoghaire to help make their incredible vision become a reality.

‘The Late Late Toy Show’ producer Katherine Drohanrevealed: “This year’s opening number is the most ambitious we have ever staged. More than 60 students from IADT Dun Laoghaire are working on special pieces to feature in the opening of the show. Sworn to secrecy, these students have been working tirelessly on the project for weeks now. The giant characters they are creating will be an integral part of an opening that will stretch the limits of The Late Late Toy Show studio and the imagination.”

As always, the real stars of the show are the hundreds of children from across the country who will sing, dance and demonstrate their way throughout the 2 hour and 20 minutes show. Will there be another heartwarming horologist on the horizon?

Last year’s Beauty and the Beast-themed Late Late Toy Show was the belle of the ball with Irish viewers with a total consolidated* audience of 1.56 million viewers and is the second most watched programme on Irish television this century.

With over 1.5  million viewers expected to watch the show, RTÉ revealed that The Late Late Toy Show will be available to watch worldwide for free, live and on-demand on RTÉ Player, across Desktop, iOS and Android apps.
