The supernatural adaptation starring Irish actress Ruth Negga got off to a flying start this May and is set to renew for a second season.
The AMC series has been widely commended for its viewership, with Variety citing Neilsen’s audience numbers of 0.9 in adults 18-48 and 2.4 million viewers overall in the US.
The show’s creators and writers include Garth Ennis hailing from Co. Down, who also collaborated on the original comic books of the same name with Steve Dillon.
On the standard of the adaptation, AMC President & General Manager Charlie Collier has stated, “What Sam, Seth, Evan and the entire creative team have achieved in bringing Garth Ennis’ graphic novel to the screen is extraordinary. We look forward to more time with these unforgettable characters be it in Heaven, Hell, Texas or beyond.”
The story follows pastor Jesse Custer, who enlists the help of a vampire to seek out God following a supernatural incident in his church. Negga’s character Tulip O’Hare is Custer’s love interest and has earned the actress further praise since her success at this year’s Cannes Festival with ‘Loving’.
The second season of ‘Preacher’ will increase the number of episodes from ten to thirteen and is expected to air in 2017.
