TV3’s brand new documentary series ‘Dáil on the Dole’, which will see four TD’s spend time with their social welfare dependent constituents to get a better understanding of what the real issues affecting their day-to-day lives are, will commence on Monday, 20th April at 9pm on TV3.

‘Dail on The Dole’ is produced by Mind the Gap Films for TV3. The show is directed by Garry Keane and produced by Bill Hughes. The Executive Producer on the project was Bill Hughes while Owen McArdle was the Executive Producer for TV3. Development Producer was Anne Heffernan, Casting Producer was Siobhan O Sullivan. The Editor was Paul Giles while Emmet Harte was on Camera. The Production Co-Ordinator of the project was Jennifer Healy.

Each week, the show follows one of four TDs as they are paired up with people in their constituency who are dependent on social welfare payments. The four TDs involved are Catherine Byrne (Fine Gael – Dublin South Central), Willie O’Dea (Fianna Fáil – Limerick City), Joanna Tuffy (Labour – Dublin Mid West) and John Halligan (Independent – Waterford).

With many Irish people believing their elected representatives have no understanding of the issues that rule their everyday lives, and TDs thinking they work more hours than anyone on the planet, Dáil on the Dole is a programme which gives both sides the chance to walk a mile in each other’s shoes.

During the time they spend together, each TD gets to experience what it’s like to try to make ends meet, planning a budget for the week, trying to pay bills and keep food on the table, dealing with below-standard housing and trying to cut through the bureaucracy to access Government assistance, all in the hope of getting a better understanding of the issues that their constituents are facing.

‘Dáil on the Dole’ starts on Monday (20th April) at 9pm on TV3
