Live Music Show ‘Other Voices’ Returns to Dingle Next Month For 13th Year

Back for its 13th season, the Church of St. James’ will open its doors to ‘Other Voices’ on Friday 12th, Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th December. Presented by actor Aiden Gillen (‘Love/Hate, ‘Game Of Thrones’), ‘Other Voices’ every year attracts an expanding array of artists from across the musical spectrum to perform at this intimate musical event which is transmitted worldwide online and as a television series.

Produced by South Wind Blows, the initial show will once again be recorded live and streamed on RTÉ Player. The television series will be edited afterwards and broadcast on RTÉ television in 2015. Editing will be done by freelance editor Eoin McDonagh and post production will take place at EMC Post Production. Maurice Linnane will direct while Aoife Woodlock will serve as music producer.

For the church show at night, OB will be provided by TVM. The acoustic sessions with the bands will be filmed by Gerry MacArthur, Ross O’ Callaghan and Pete Cullane. Tim Martin will serve as set recordist with Damien Bolger and Chloe Nagle taking care of stage management. Stephen McDonnell is the sound recordist for the acoustic sessions. Lighting will be done by Liam McCarthy with lights provided by JustLite Productions. Caroline O’Conner will act as set designer.

Tina Moran, managing director of South Wind Blows said: ‘We’re delighted to be back working with RTÉ and all our other sponsors to bring ‘Other Voices’ back to Dingle for a 13th year!’

Past singer-songwriters and rock bands to take to the stage for ‘Other Voices’ include Glen Hansard, The National, Anna Calvi, Asgeir, Savages, Elbow, The XX, Amy Winehouse, St. Vincent, Snow Patrol, Sinéad O’ Connor, Hozier, Kodaline, Villagers, James Vincent McMorrow and many others.

The first four acts to be revealed from the line-up this year are Young Fathers, Delorentos, All We Are and Damien Rice.

More announcements will follow in the coming weeks.

Other highlights include:

  • Series presenter Aidan Gillen will play a two hander with BBC Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens
  • Banter, a salon style series of discussions and debate curated by Jim Carroll ( thisisbanter.com) taking place in Foxy John’s Bar
  • The Music Trail will feature new and established bands playing in unusual venues around Dingle. Surprise guests are a feature and all Music Trail events are free and take place before and after the church shows, while live-streaming guarantees a seat for everybody
  • Each year, Other Voices provides a TV and online platform for new and emerging acts in the IMRO Other Room. Applications for a performance slot in the IMRO Other Room reach beyond 1,000 each year

RTÉ and Other Voices will again give music fans the opportunity to select the artist for the final IMRO Other Room slot. RTÉ and Other Voices invite artists of all genres to submit a link to one video (it can be a video or a still image with audio) or link to audio-only recording for consideration. These links should be submitted through the IMRO Other Room Open Call application process on www.othervoices.ie. Artists will have until Thursday November 27th to submit their link.
