RTÉ has commissioned a series of fly-on-the-wall observational documentaries for children. The ten episodes of ‘Zara World’ will air on RTÉ 2 and RTÉjr from today (13th October).
Independent production company Fubar Films, who made the award-winning children’s film ‘Eliot & Me’, produced the short documentaries. They feature a seven-year old girl called Zara who lives with her family in Dublin city.
‘Zara World’ will transmit from today on RTÉ2 and from 20th October on RTÉjr. Filmed over six months, each episode features a small snapshot of Zara’s life presented in a child friendly fly-on-the-wall style.
The audience will see Zara go on trips to the beach, park, library, playground, zoo and aquarium as well as a day trip to Bray, playing games with her friends, Taekwondo training and spending time with her family. Zara’s dad Gordon, big sister, Ali, and younger brother, Zack also play an important role in the documentaries.
Director Fintan Connolly developed the series with producer Fiona Bergin. “It was different from anything I’ve made before,” says Connolly. “We filmed all over the city and it was fun to make. Her family got into it and threw up some lovely moments that young children will enjoy.”
The series was filmed and directed by Fintan Connolly, the score is by Stephen Rennicks and post production was done in Egg. Locations include Shelly Banks, Merrion Square, Pearse St., Sandymount, St. Stephen’s Green, Phoenix Park and Bray.
‘ZARA WORLD’ will be broadcast on RTÉ 2 at 10.00am from Monday 13th October (today) and on RTÉjr at 11.00am and 17.40pm from Monday 20th October. It will air on weekends on RTÉjr at 13.25pm.
