In a bid to support the production of feature length animation projects in the Flemish region, a fund of €750,000 will be dedicated annually to a single majority-produced project.
The announcement was made at the Cartoon Movie forum, which kicked off today in Bordeaux and will continue to run until Friday, March 10th.
The Cartoon Saloon co-founder, whose credits as a producer include ‘Song of the Sea’ and ‘The Secret of Kells’ is one of two English-speaking industry experts who have been added to the fund’s selection committee.
The second is Les Armateurs special advisor Jean-Paul Commin, co-producer of the Oscar-nominated ‘Ernest And Celestine’ (Stéphane Aubier, Vincent Patar & Benjamin Renner).
Flemish animation producers have been minority partners in several major animated features in the last number of years, including the Oscar-nominated ‘The Secret of Kells’ (Tomm Moore).
In addition to the abovementioned €750,000 for feature projects, the same amount will continue to be invested by the VAF in animated shorts each year.
Cartoon Salon’s ‘Wolfwalkers’ is one of fifty-five projects being pitched at the forum by Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart in the coming days.
