ABOUT TIME Short Festival Begins In Dublin
23 Nov 2004 :

ABOUT TIME, a week long celebration of the best of UK and Irish contemporary performance kicks off at Project Arts Centre on Tuesday 23rd November in Dublin.

ABOUT TIME will showcase some of the most exhilarating and cutting edge performers working in the UK right now, will begin with a screening at UGC, Parnell Street of ‘Civic Life: Moore Street’, a short film which explores the changing face of this iconic street, by UK- based Irish artists Joe Lawlor and Christine Molloy.

The 24th of Novmeber see a unique performance from Marisa Carnesky, who explores the Jewish taboo of tattooing in her multi-disciplinary show, ‘Jewess Tattooess’. Also on Wednesday 24th Gregg Whelan and Gary Winters, aka ‘Lone Twin’, will begin their four day journey through the streets of Dublin. Each evening they will return to Project to recount tales of their day's encounters - stories of a city at work, rest and play, stories of the brave, the humble and the puncture repair kit.

Thursday 25th will bring Joshua Sofaer’s ‘The Performance Pack’, a limited edition artwork which explores the relationship between fine art and performance. Ever wanted to put together your own lecture-based performance? Come along and see how it’s done. Later the same day Robin Deacon will perform his one-man lecture piece that puts an ironic spin on the life and times of ex-US Secretary of State, Colin Powell - a show that has gained immediacy given this week's events in the US.

Curious will bring their olfactory performance, ‘On The Scent’, to Dublin for two days, starting Friday 26th. Known for their edgy, humorous work, ‘On The Scent’ will explore the elusive connections between smell and memory and these intimate shows will bring audiences on a very different journey, at once familiar and unsettling.

ABOUT TIME is welcoming Forced Entertainment back to Dublin with their 20th anniversary show ‘Bloody Mess’. A riot of sounds, sights, stories, good-natured chaos and camp, complex trashiness, this is a show that is both startling, exciting and challenging, but totally unforgettable.

Finally, live art enthusiasts are invited to a public session on the morning of Saturday 27th where the UK's Live Art Development Agency and artists participating in the festival will discuss strategies for developing new work. This will be followed by a unique opportunity to hear Forced Entertainment's founding member Tim Etchells discussing their collective and history and approach to making work, 'In The Event'.

ABOUT TIME is brought to you by Project Arts Centre and the British Council Ireland. Tickets for all performances are available from Project on 01 881 9613 or www.project.ie
