John Crowley has picked up the Douglas Hickox Award for Best Debut Director for at the 2004 British Independent Film Awards for the Irish feature film ‘Intermission.’
Mike Leigh’s contentious story of an abortionist in 1950s England ‘Vera Drake’ received |
the most accolades with six awards including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress for Imelda Staunton and Phil Davis and Eddie Marson picking up the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor awards respectively.
The Best Newcomer award went to ‘So Solid Crew’s’ Ashley Walters for his portrayal of Ricky in Bullet Boy, an eighteen year old fresh out of custody and desperate to stay on the straight and narrow.
Chan-wook Park’s 'Oldboy' was named Best Foreign Film, with the acclaimed feature 'Touching the Void' won the Best Documentary and Best Technical Achievement awards.
