The Easter Holiday weekend saw a disappointing start for the Irish filmed production ‘Ella Enchanted’ as it and many other movies struggled to compete with ‘The Passion of the Christ’ at the US Box Office.
Ranked 9th position in the US top ten and taking only $ 6.1million over it’s opening weekend ‘Ella Enchanted’ has failed to make it’s mark upon it’s young target audience. Instead ‘The Johnson Family Vacation’, a comedy caper starring Cedrick the Entertainer attracted the majority of that age group which earned $ 9.38million and came in 3rd place behind Hellboy and, of course, ‘The Passion of the Christ’. From a budget of just $ 27million, ‘The Passion re-claimed the box office top spot in the States climbing four places and has now accumulated $ 354.9million to become the eighth biggest grossing film ever in the US.
The Passion also took poll position at the UK Box Office but only 2nd place in Ireland, with new release ‘Scooby Doo 2’ taking the gold.
