Paddy Breathnach’s latest film ‘Man About Dog’ has been chosen to close the 2004 Galway Film Fleadh. This year’s festival programme also includes several promising Irish feature films, shorts and documentaries.
‘Man About Dog’ will be screened on the final day of the festival, July 11th. This is
Breathnach's fifth outing in the director's chair and he
describes the film as a "rumbunctious and irreverent action
comedy with a touch of road movie." A host of cast and crew are expected to attend.
In addition, Lenny Abrahamson, Ciaran O'Connor and Joseph Murphy will all
present their first feature films at this year's Fleadh with ‘Adam and Paul,’ ‘Capital Letters’ and ‘Grey’ respectively. Other feature screenings will include Stephen Kane’s ‘Starfish’, Alan Gilsenan’s ‘ Timbucktu’, Lance Daly’s ‘The Halo Effect’, Margo Harkin’s educational film ‘You Looking At Me?’ and Pete Travis’s ‘Omagh’.
Feature documentary screenings include; Colum Stapleton's ‘Empire of Juramidam’, Hilary Dully’s ‘Tollain Dhubha (Black Tunnels)’, Vinny Cunningham’s ‘Battle of the Bogside’, Neasa Ní Chianain's ‘Frank Ned Agus Busy Lizzie.’ Other documentaries showing throughout the Fleadh include Robert Quinn's ‘Cinegael Paradiso – Once Upon a Time in Connemara’, Mac Dara O'Curraidhín's ‘Idir Shúgradh Agus Dáiríre’, and Steve Lock’s ‘The Saw Doctors - A Different Kind of World.’ Finally ,animation taste buds are catered for with Magma Film’s ‘Derrick.’
Continuing their commitment to Irish cinema, the Fleadh are hosting a retrospective of the work of some of Ireland's maverick
filmmakers. To remind us of the first wave of Irish film there
will be screenings of films by Joe Comerford (Emtigon,
Withdrawl, Waterboy, Rough Touch), Bob Quinn (Budawanny, The Family), Cathal Black (Pigs) , Kieron Hickey (Exposure),
Thaddeus O'Sullivan (In the Border Country, The Woman Who Married Clark Gable), Pat O'Connor (Maeve), Robert Wynne-
Simmons (Outcasts) and Vivienne Dick (She Had Her Gun Already, A Skinny Little Man Attacked Daddy).
