Top Acting Talent To Shoot In Dublin
19 May 2004 :

Kathy Bates

The cream of Hollywood’s acting women have all signed on to star in the new Parallel Films movie ‘Pushers Needed.’ The extraordinary ensemble cast includes Joan Allen (The Contender, The Crucible, Nixon), Kathy Bates (Misery, About Schmidt),

Maggie Smith (Gosford Park, Harry Potter),Brenda Bleythn (Little Voice) and Claire Danes (Terminator 3, Romeo & Juliet) who will be shooting on location in Dublin City Centre throughout the month of July 2004.

‘Pushers Needed’ is written and will be directed by Irish born filmmaker Jimmy Smallhorne. A rising star in the Irish industry, this is the second feature for Smallhorne. His directorial debut feature “2x4” was a Sundance Festival favorite in 1998, winning for Best Cinematography. Talking to IFTN, Parallel Films adds that an equally impressive male cast is lined up to star in the movie but an offical announcement cannot be made until the deals are finalised.

The film is a comedic tale that tells the story of a group of harried, working class housewives who win a trip to Lourdes and embark on an adventure that will change their lives - leaving behind their husbands to care for the kids. As well as filming in Ireland the cast and crew will travel to France and the UK.

Structured as an Irish/UK co-production with Dublin based Parallel Film, it is produced by Joan Allen, Julia Palau, Evan Todd, Matthew Payne, Alan Moloney, Michael Cowan and Jason Piette. Finance is provided by Movision, Invicta and the Irish Film Board. Executive producers are Peter James and James Simpson for Movision. The film reunites Palau and Payne (Tusk) with Cowan and Piette (Spice Factory) following last year’s “Head in the Clouds” (starring Oscar winner Charlize Theron and Penelope Cruz).

Arclight’s Gary Hamilton is handling international sales. ICM packaged “Pushers Needed” and ICM International’s Shaun Redick will represent the North American rights.

Demi Moore in ‘Half Light’

In other news, Hollywood comeback queen Demi Moore is set to star in the romantic thriller entitled ‘Half Light.’ The film will be directed by the writer Craig Rosenborg and will be shot on locations in Ireland and the UK in August 2004.

As reported in the Cannes Variety news, the film will be produced by Joel B. Michaels (Terminator 3, Lolita) alongside Garth Drabinsky (The Changeling) and Brian Oliver (Auto Focus).
