New Media College Signs Two Year Deal with EBU
06 May 2004 :

The New Media Technology College (NMTC) based in Dublin have signed a 2-year deal with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in Switzerland to provide new media eLearning programmes.

Since the NMTC was formed in 2000 by Kelly McErlean the college has striven to maintaining close links with the broadcasting and film industry, employing leading personnel as lecturers the college has successfully bridged the gap between the production and education sectors. It now boasts a 95% employment rate for successful graduates with recent graduate Peter Donnelly winning the Irish Film and Television Award for Best Animation 2004.

From his experiences in the education sector overseas Kelly McErkean noticed a need for high-quality audiovisual courses in Ireland. It is because of this that the ties with the EBU have been established. With 66 active Members operating in 49 countries, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is the world’s largest professional association of national broadcasters. Its training arm, EBU International Training provides training programmes and services primarily directed at its active Members. EBU International Training has worked with NMTC for many years to provide professionals in the audiovisual sector with new media training adapted to the specific needs of the broadcasting industry. Thanks to the success of these programmes, EBU International Training has awarded the college exclusive accreditation for a new course in Interactive Media Production. This high-level course will be the international industry standard qualification in new technologies, effectively acting as a natural progression for successful graduates of the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL).
