Irish Films To Be Screened in China
05 May 2004 :

As part of the Festival of Irish Arts and Culture in China, sixteen Irish features and shorts have been selected for screenings in Beijing and at the Shanghai International Film Festival.

The “Cinema Ireland Season”, selected in association with the Irish Film Institute, will take place at the end of May in Beijing and in June as part of the Shanghai International Film Festival. This season of film screenings is part of a larger festival of Irish arts and culture taking place in both cities, which forms one half of a major cultural exchange programme between Ireland and China. The opening film will be the recently Oscar nominated In America directed by Jim Sheridan.

“Ireland now has a vibrant and growing indigenous film industry that has produced several of the world’s leading film makers including most notably, Academy Award winners Neil Jordan and Jim. Irish filmmakers have through their work reflected the seismic changes in Ireland’s political, social, economic and cultural landscape. All these different aspects of Irish film culture are reflected in one way or another in the selection of films that we are screening in China.” Richard Wakely, Commissioner for the Festival of Arts and Culture in China
