Wider Vision launch in West Clare
10 Mar 2004 :

Wider Vision have opened their new production facility in West Clare with guests Brendan Gleeson and Sean McGinley present on the opening night to give support.

The opening night was reported to be a spirited affair with live traditional music and plenty of craic. Neighbours, friends and colleagues attended with Brendan Gleeson and Sean McGinley as special guests. Both actors joined in with Brendan even playing the fiddle for a time. Sean was reportedly “very impressed” with new drama ‘Consequences’ he commented that Wider Vision and its work are “exciting and unique”.

Wider Vision, is owned and run by Director Deirdre Noonan who is thrilled to be launching her company at this time. She has had over 12 years experience working within the industry with RTE and on a freelance basis. She counts productions with Agtel, Midas Productions and Poolbeg Productions among her list of credits.

This new facility in Clare is the only one of its kind in the area and has been financed by a 50% capital grant awarded to Wider Vision from Leader. Among the new technology available are the latest Apple Mac computers fully equipped with high-end visual and audio editing software along with output capabilities for producing quality corporates on interactive DVD or tape. This service has not been available in the area before. The company has 2 cameras Sony Digital D35 and PD150, a full set of light and sound equipment and a studio/theatre room of approx 40 sq yards.

This continues a fantastic run of success for Wider Vision, with their recent drama ‘Summer of 1920,’ a period piece about the Black and Tans, shot in 2002, due to be screened at the Fresh Film Festival later this month. And amongst their recent productions includes a promising short drama entitled ‘Consequences’. A horror film shot on location in a convent over one week last Halloween. Directed by debut helmer Donagh McCarthy and starring a host of promising local talent including Flan Donovan, Edel Tubridy and Mark Cusack. The story follows a group of wayward teenagers who kidnap a young girl and take her to a convent. Thus beginning a string of ghastly and terrifying events.

Another exciting prospect for the company is the documentary currently in production following the marine biologist’s Dr. Simon Berrow's research into the shannon dolphins due to be broadcast on RTE1 during the late summer. ‘Sound Waves’ focuses on Dr. Berrow’s attempts to place a permanent hydrophone onto the sea bed where the dolphins can be monitored in “real time”. Hopefully resulting in a public facility for monitoring our fish friends. Bird watchers beware!
