Lee Cronin's The Mummy adds additional cast

Veronica Falcon, May Calamawy, and May Elghety have joined the cast of The Mummy, the upcoming film from Irish writer-director Lee Cronin. They join previously announced cast members IFTA winner Jack Reynor and Laia Costa.

Production of The Mummy is currently underway in Ireland and Spain on the Atomic Monster and Blumhouse film for New Line Cinema. Cronin is also producing under his Doppelgängers banner. Details of the plot remain unknown.

Mexican actress Veronica Falcón has built a career of over three decades of work spanning film, television, theatre and choreography. Falcón was most recently featured in Blumhouse’s supernatural thriller Imaginary, directed by Jeff Wadlow. She played the role of “Trader Sam” opposite Emily Blunt & Dwayne Johnson in Disney’s Jungle Cruise. She starred in A Million Miles Away alongside Michael Peña and starred in the critically praised film adaptation of the global bestseller book Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, produced by Lin-Manuel Miranda, starring Eva Longoria & Eugenio Derbez. Other notable film credits include The Starling, Days of Grace, Voyagers opposite Colin Farrell and The Forever Purge also for Blumhouse. 

On television, she has played roles such as “Camila Vargas” in Queen of the South, “Camila Elizondro” in the Emmy-winning Ozark and starred as “Lupe Gibbs” in Perry Mason with Matthew Rhys & John Lithgow. She starred in Marc Cherry’s Why Women Kill & in Steve Conrad’s Perpetual Grace Ltd. Additional TV credits include Apple TV+ Mr. Corman opposite Joseph Gordon Levitt, HBO’s Room 104 & Ryan Murphy’s 9.1.1. with Angela Bassett & Peter Krause. 

May Calamawy is best known for her role as “Scarlet Scarab,” in Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight series, starring opposite Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke. She starred in Hulu's Emmy-winning comedy series Ramy. Her upcoming work includes Duke Johnson’s The Actor opposite Andre Holland and Gemma Chan.  

Egyptian actress May Elghety notable roles include on the Egyptian TV series Grand Hotel, La Totfee’ Al Shams, and Tayee and films including  Clash which competed at Cannes. She has also starred in international productions including Disney Plus’s Kizazi Moto. 

Speaking about the project, director Lee Cronin said the film: “will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before. I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening.”

Cronin previously worked with New Line on Evil Dead Rise, which grossed nearly $150 million worldwide.

Previous blockbuster iterations of The Mummy have starred Brendan Fraser, in 1999, and Tom Cruise, in 2017, to varying box office success. The Fraser movie spawned multiple sequels and spin-offs. Blumhouse have been involved in other recent reboots of horror properties including The Invisible Man and Wolf Man.
