BAFTA nominated actress Máiréad Tyers (Extraordinary) has joined the second season of cast of RTÉ/Hulu dark comedy Obituary starring Siobhán Cullen. The series is now in production in Co. Donegal.
The series is produced by APC Studios and Magamedia, for RTÉ and Hulu, and is available on Netflix in the UK.
Tyers, BAFTA nominated for her role in Disney+ series Extraordinary, will star opposite Cullen, who was this year's Screen Ireland IFTA Rising Star winner.
Obituary season 2 'sees Elvira (Cullen) struggling with the death of her beloved father. Again, she seeks relief in killing, but is beaten to the act by a mysterious new murderer in town. A local cop, Detective Rose (Noni Stapleton), suspects Elvira of the crime, which in this case she hasn’t committed. Elvira becomes determined to solve the murder herself and meet a potential kindred spirit.' Tyers will play ‘an eccentric newspaper editor who pits Elvira against boyfriend Emerson (Ronan Raftery) in the newsroom.’
Rachel Carey and Gary Shore will direct this season, with Ray Lawlor returning as writer. APC Studios’ Laurent Boissel and Magamedia’s Paddy Hayes are executive producers. Obituary is produced in association with Screen Ireland, Coimisiún na Meán and WRAP.
