Screen Skills Ireland has opened applicants for its flagship Passport to Production initiative, a structured programme designed to equip new entrants with the tools to take up their first position as trainee crew members in the industry.

Passport to Production aims to drive wider representation in the creative screen industry and Screen Skills Ireland is looking to encourage new entrants from diverse and underrepresented groups to apply.

The programme will provide a broad overview of all the departments and help equip new entrants with the knowledge and some of the essential skills for working on a live action set.

Participants will receive training facilitated and delivered by industry experts and Irish professional crew, and the programme aims to offer participants structured and paid work experience as a trainee on a production shooting in Ireland.

“As the screen sector in Ireland continues to develop and with the expansion of studio infrastructure, it is likely that the demand for new entrants to the industry will grow in the coming years,” said Screen Skills Ireland Manager, Gareth Lee, when speaking about Passport to Production.

“Passport to Production aims to bring talented new crew members into the sector, particularly from groups who have previously been underrepresented in the industry, to contribute to a diverse and thriving Irish screen sector.”

The 2021 programme will roll out five Passport to Production courses over the coming months. Previous iterations of the programme have taken place in Donegal, Dublin/Wicklow, Galway, Limerick, and Wexford, with many participants moving on to further roles in the sector.

Passport to Production is suitable for anyone with the commitment, motivation, and passion to work in the film and television industry as a crew member. Screen Skills Ireland welcomes interest from film and media course graduates, as well as those who wish to transition from other sectors or disciplines, but applicants do not need to have studied or worked in this industry.

Applicants should have a keen interest in working in this sector, and transferable skills that they can bring to a role on a film or TV production. This course is not open to full time students.

Those interested in applying for Passport to Production, can complete the application form by 12pm on Monday, June 14th.
