Broken Law
Irish crime thriller Broken Law has landed a number of distribution sales across the globe according to 101 Films International, the distribution company handling international sales of Paddy Slattery’s debut feature film.

The film has been picked by several companies including Reel 2 Reel for North America, Phoenicia Pictures in the Middle East, Rialto for New Zealand, and HBO for CEE.

"We're over the moon with the news that our film is being picked up around the world,” writer/director Paddy Slattery told IFTN.

“It can be a difficult task for a sales agent to sell an independent film internationally without any high profile cast involved, so news like this comes as a very welcomed surprise,” Slattery continued. “With that said, our film has universal appeal and packs a dramatic punch, so we believe this success overseas has been well earned and long may it continue."

From award-winning first-time writer/director Paddy Slattery, Broken Law is a gritty thriller features stand-out performances from award-winning actor Tristan Heanue (Cardboard Gangsters, Ciúnas) and Graham Earley (Cardboard GangstersMonged), along with their co-stars John Connors (Love/Hate), Gemma-Leah Devereux (Get Up and GoJudy), and Ryan Lincoln (Kissing Candice).

We’re extremely pleased to have secured these global deals for this exceptional Irish film.  Broken Law is an award-winning, must-see dynamic crime thriller packed full of energy and great performances,” said Eoghan Burke, VP of International Sales, 101 Films International.

Broken Law is produced by Simon James Doyle (Failsafe Films) and Paddy Slattery (True Line Films), with the participation of Screen Ireland. Following a sold-out IMAX premiere at the Dublin International Film Festival 2020, the film was acquired by Netflix in Ireland and the UK after cinemas across the globe closed due to the ongoing pandemic.

The film debuted at the 2020 Marché du Film and was the winner of the Discovery Award at the Dublin International Film Festival, as well as receiving a prestigious Special Jury Prize (voted for by the Dublin Film Critics’ Circle).

Broken Law tells the story of Dave Connolly, a respected member of the Garda Síochána, whose loyalty to the law gets tested by his ex-convict brother Joe, who is in desperate need of his help, following a botched robbery. Suddenly Dave finds himself embroiled in a cover-up that leads to a secret relationship with Amia, an unhappily married woman who also happens to be the victim of his brother's latest crime.
