Wild Mountain Thyme
Lionsgate will release Wild Mountain Thyme on all major Irish and UK digital retailers on April 30th, and in cinemas in the Republic of Ireland this summer.

From Oscar, Tony, and Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and director John Patrick Shanley (DoubtMoonstruck), Wild Mountain Thyme looks to capture the romance, lyricism, and transcendent beauty of the Irish countryside in an extraordinary love story between two lonely souls.

Based on Shanley stage play Outside Mullingar, the film stars Emily Blunt (A Quiet PlaceMary Poppins Returns), Jamie Dornan (Anthropoid, The Fall), Christopher Walken (The Deer HunterHairspray), Jon Hamm (Mad MenBaby Driver), and Dearbhla Molloy (Coronation Street, Uncle Vanya).

Irish producer Martina Niland (Sing StreetOnce) features as producer alongside Leslie Urdang (BeginnersAdam), Anthony Bregman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless MindFoxcatcher), Alex Witchel, Michael A. Helfant (The CallVery Bad Things), and Bradley Gallo (Them That FollowMr. Right).

Filmed on location in North Mayo in the west of Ireland, Wild Mountain Thyme was made with the support of Screen Ireland and The WRAP regional fund.

With an initial release date delayed due to Covid, the film will now release on all major Irish/UK digital retailers on April 30th (Sky, Amazon, Apple, Google Play, Virgin, Talk Talk, BT, Rakuten, XBOX, Sony PS, Chili TV and Showcase At Home), and in cinemas in the Republic of Ireland this Summer.

Passionate, determined, and smart, Rosemary Muldoon (Emily Blunt) has been in love with her neighbor Anthony Reilly (Jamie Dornan) since they were 10 years old. It seems that everyone in their farming community knows they were meant for each other — except Anthony.

An eccentric introvert, Anthony has spent his entire life working on the family farm alongside his father Tony (Christopher Walken). The aging Tony blindsides Anthony with his plan to sell the farm to Adam (Jon Hamm), his wealthy American nephew, because he doubts his son has what it takes to run it. And when Adam comes to visit, his obvious interest in Rosemary complicates the situation further.

With everything that’s important to him about to slip through his fingers, Anthony has to move quickly, but a series of losses and his own certainty that he is unlovable leaves his future — and Rosemary’s — in doubt. Filled with Ireland’s glorious vistas, poetic spirit, and acerbic wit, Wild Mountain Thyme draws on Shanley’s Irish roots for a comedic and moving once-upon-a-time romance.

Wild Mountain Thyme is due for release in Irish cinemas this summer.
