Cinemagic calls for young writers and illustrators to submit for 'Projections from Isolation'
07 May 2020 : News Desk
Cinemagic is inviting young writers and illustrators (aged 16-25 years old) to submit a piece of work that represents their passion for cinemas and cinema culture for its ‘Projects from Isolation’ initiative.

For writers this can be a short essay, story (500 words max.) or a poem. For illustrators this can be a drawing or visual representation; perhaps a portrait of a cinema, a cinema worker or something more experimental and abstract. Cinemagic plan to celebrate, document and preserve a number of the submitted pieces into a printed work titled ‘Projections from Isolation’.

Making the announcement on the Cinemagic website, the Belfast-based film charity said that it wanted to “create a positive and genuine project that celebrates ideas of community, togetherness and a shared love of cinemas”, during the testing times that the self-isolation and containment of the COVID-19 pandemic have caused.

“Although we can’t physically visit our local picture house, we can take time to think about why we love cinemas and what we love about them. Perhaps cherished memories of a first visit; or the people we watch movies with; or an important weekly ritual that excites, thrills and astounds us.”

This opportunity is open to young writers and illustrators throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland.

The deadline to apply is Saturday 6th June.
