Channel 4 has revealed the first trailer for season 2 of Lisa McGee’s hit TV comedy ‘Derry Girls’.

Written by Lisa McGee (‘Raw’) and directed by Michael Lennox (‘Boogaloo & Graham’), the six-part series sees Saoirse-Monica Jackson assume the leading role of sixteen year-old Erin Quinn, living with her uncompromising mother, played by Tara Lynne O’Neill, and long-suffering father, portrayed by Tommy Tiernan. Jackson is accompanied by a supporting cast of Louisa Harland, Nicola Coughlan, Jamie-Lee O'Donnell, Dylan Llewellyn and Ian McElhinney.

Principle photography wrapped on the second season of the Northern Irish-based comedy series, which is produced by Hit Trick Productions.

Set in the early nineties during The Troubles, ‘Derry Girls’ was revealed as the biggest series ever in Northern Ireland earlier this year; averaging a viewership of 519k and 64.2% share of the audience. It reached 54% of the Northern Irish TV audience, including 65% of 16-34 year old viewers.

Across the UK, consolidated viewing figures reveal that the first series of Derry Girls was watched by an average of 2.5 million viewers, making it Channel 4’s biggest comedy launch since 2004. As well as this massive feat, ‘Derry Girls’ is also the most successful comedy series ever launched on All 4, beating majorly successful comedies such as ‘The Inbetweeners’.

‘Derry Girls’ also picked up two IFTAs for ‘Best Comedy’ and ‘Best Writer – Soap/Comedy’ at the 2018 IFTA Television Awards back in May.

The second season of ‘Derry Girls’ is expected out on Channel 4 in early 2019.
