Telegael's 'Captain Morten and the Spider Queen' Nominated for National Film Awards UK
28 Jan 2019 : Nathan Griffin
Ireland’s first ever feature length stop-motion film has been nominated for Best Animation Film at this year’s National Film Awards UK.

Co-produced by Ireland’s Telegael, Estonia’s Nukufilm, Belgium’s Grid Animation and Wales’ Calon, ‘Captain Morten and the Spider Queen’ will compete against ‘Early Man’, ‘Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires’, ‘Peter Rabbit’, ‘Sherlock Gnomes’ and ‘Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero’ for the accolade in March.

‘Captain Morten and the Spider Queen’ was produced on a budget of €10 million and is being sold worldwide by Sola Media.

The all-Irish cast includes Brendan Gleeson, Pauline McLynn, Ciarán Hinds and Michael McElhatton, stand-up comedians Mario Rosenstock, Jason Byrne, Tommy Tiernan and Neil Delamere as well as young up and coming Irish talent Cian O’Dowd and Susie Power who play the roles of Morten and Eliza.

Speaking about the nomination, Paul Cummins, Telegael CEO and Executive Producer of the film told IFTN:

“We are very excited to be nominated for this award. This is a fabulous recognition for our film and a tribute to the tremendous work by the talented crew and cast who worked on it. Captain Morten is in big demand at international festivals and very popular with children.”

The National Film Awards take place in London on the 28th of March 2019 and are produced and funded by the National Film Academy.
