In the run in to Christmas, we have invited some of Ireland’s leading Film & TV talents to take part in IFTN’s festive Q&A.

Julie began her career as a freelance producer of non-scripted Television, working in the US in this area for 10 years. During this time she produced 3 award winning short films ‘Blood and Water’, ‘Schnitzel or Spaetzle’ and ‘Take a Seat’ in the US and Canada. On moving back to Ireland she produced ‘The Young Offenders’ movie, which earned her an IFTA nomination for Best Film. The movie ran for 25 weeks in Irish cinemas and is available in over 180 countries on Netflix.  She then founded MK1 Productions which currently has 3 movies slated for production in 2019 including ‘A Bend in the River’, which is in post-production and will release in 2019.

Ryan’s latest production ‘Christmas Perfection’ is a TV movie following a woman who wakes up in her perfect Christmas Village in Ireland. ‘Christmas Perfection’ releases in the US on Tuesday, December 18th and stars Caitlin Thompson (‘This Is Us’), James-Henri Thomas and Robbie Silverman alongside Irish talent Norma Sheahan , Rachel Brady , Gary Hetzler and Caoilfhionn McDonnell. The TV movie is directed by David Jackson (‘Miami Vice’, ‘Nash Bridges’, ‘One Tree Hill’) and written by Lauren Hynek and Elizabeth Martin (Disney's ‘Mulan’, 2020).

Distributed by Mar Vista Entertainment Studios and acquired by Lifetime in the US and Channel 5 in the US and Ireland where it's currently airing and on catch-up, ‘Christmas Perfection’ is available for purchase on GoWatchIt - here.

IFTN journalist Nathan Griffin caught up with Ryan ahead of the festive season.

What was your highlight of 2018?

“Making a Christmas movie. Lifelong dream!”

What are you most looking forward to working on in the New Year?

“I'm looking forward to making some New Year’s resolutions I won't keep, filming some new projects in the new year and also hopefully making another Christmas movie. Keep the dream alive.”

What was your favourite Film of 2018?

“The Greatest Showman. Do you know it's still playing in cinemas in Ireland? Mind blowing. I nearly lost my life last week when I nearly didn't get a ticket to his solo show coming to Ireland. Say what you will about the movie but his concert tickets sold out faster than the Spice Girls or so I've personally deduced. “

What TV Show did you binge watch this year?

“Killing Eve.”

What Irish talent have you been impressed with over the last 12 months?

“Ireland is literally brimming at the seams with amazing talent. Too many to mention.”

What International talent would you most like to work with?

“I'm currently working with a mixture of Irish and International talent in front and behind the camera. I have a list of talent I would like to work with who I'm slowly but surely planning to accost in the future. I want to work with them all!”

What two film/television personalities would you most like to have dinner with? (invite over for Christmas dinner) (Dead/Alive)

“Eli Roth and Maeve Binchy. “

What’s your favourite movie to watch on Christmas day?

“The Sound of Music.”
