2018 Waterford Film Festival Begins Friday 30th November

The 12th iteration of the festival will see 55 films screened in Central Arts over three days

Over the course of the weekend audiences will get to experience  an exciting and vast range of films of different genres from many different backgrounds and cultures, After a record breaking amount of submissions was received from 30 countries world wide. The festival also runs a screenplay competition with partners Waterford FilmLab. This year there are 25 finalists and on the last day of the festival there is an awards presentation where the overall winner in both the film and screenplay competition will be announced.

There are 5 short film programmes over the course of the weekend and each one runs for approximately 100 minutes in length with a blend of  films from 1st time filmmakers, professionals and award winning films. The films that will screen at this years event come from Ireland, UK, USA, Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Malta, Turkey and Australia.

The Waterford Film Festival was established in 2007 by local filmmaker Stephen Byrne. His objective was to bring something new to Waterford's arts and cultural scene, promoting local, national filmmakers and writers, but in particular independent film. 

Since  its foundation, the festival has screened over 500 films from filmmakers around the world, as well promoting writers with the short screenplay competition. Filmmakers from across Ireland, UK, France, Germany, Holland and as far as Canada and USA have attended the festival.  

The festival  has awarded prizes worth in excess of €35,000 with partners Waterford FilmLab, since 2007.
