Domhnall Gleeson Joins Phoebe Waller-Bridge HBO Comedy Pilot ‘Run’
27 Sep 2018 : Nathan Griffin
Domhnall Gleeson has been cast in a leading role for HBO’s new pilot comedy ‘Run’.

This will mark the Irish actor’s first major international TV role since appearing in ‘Black Mirror’ (2013).

Described as a romantic-comedic-thriller, ‘Run’ follows Ruby, a woman living a humdrum existence, who one day gets a text, inviting her to fulfill a youthful pact promising true love and self-reinvention, by stepping out of her life to take a journey with her oldest flame.

Gleeson will play Billy Johnson, a successful life guru from a wealthy Irish family. Born with the gift of gab, he deftly combines a boatload of charisma with a boundless need for approval.

The show comes from ‘Killing Eve’ & ‘Fleabag’ creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge and long-time collaborator Vicky Jones who both wrote the script. Jones will executive produce for DryWire, alongside Emily Leo for Wigwam Films. Waller-Bridge, Lucan Toh and Polly Williams will also serve as executive producers. Entertainment One will produce the series on behalf of HBO.

Gleeson most recently featured in Lenny Abrahamson’s new period-horror ‘The Little Stranger’, which is currently in cinemas following its launch on Friday, September 21st. Abrahamson and Gleeson had previously worked together on the quirky comedy ‘Frank’ (2014) alongside Michael Fassbender and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Other film credits include ‘Ex Machina’, ‘The Revenant’, ‘Anna Karenina’, ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’, ‘Goodbye Christopher Robin’, ‘American Made’, ‘Brooklyn’ and ‘About Time’
