Mark Cousins' 'The Eyes of Orson Welles' Secures UK & Worldwide Sales Deal
24 Apr 2018 : Nathan Griffin
Following on from the announcement that Cousins’ upcoming documentary ‘The Eyes of Orson Welles’ will premiere as part of this year’s Cannes Classics programme, Dogwoof has announced that it has acquired world sales & UK distribution rights for the film.

The UK broadcasting rights for Cousins’ new project have already been acquired by the BBC, with London based Dogwoof planning a cinematic release during summer 2018. North American TV & SVoD rights have also already been secured by Filmstruck & Turner Classic Movies (TCM).

The project which is written, directed, narrated and shot by Mark Cousins, was produced by Bofa Productions in association with the BBC & Filmstruck, and includes Oscar-winning documentarian Michael Moore as a executive producer.

The film which is produced by Mary Bell and Adam Dawtrey, and executive produced by Mark Bell, Mark Thomas, and Michael Moore follows the exploration of Welles’ life through access to hundreds of his never before made public drawings and paintings.

Speaking about the announcement, director Mark Cousins told ScreenDaily:

“It’s hard to get a documentary film out into the world, but Dogwoof are great at it. This is the third of my films that they’ve taken and, each time, they’ve done splendid work. They’ve helped define what a cinema doc is. I’m delighted to be part of that,”

Dogwoof’s head of distribution and acquisitions, Oli Harbottle added:

“Mark remains one of the truly distinctive filmmakers working in British cinema today, and we love working with him to bring his unique vision to audiences.”
