16 Mar 2018 : Nathan Griffin
Irish Director Alan Gilsenan’s adaptation of the celebrated final novel by Carol Shields goes on national release in Ireland today - Friday, March 16th.

Produced by Aoife O’Sullivan and Tristan Lynch of Subotica Films, the film was shot in Toronto where it made its international debut at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film is being handled and distributed in Ireland by Eclipse Pictures.

Written and directed by Alan Gilsenan, the film stars Catherine Keener (two time Academy Award nominee for ‘Being John Malkovich’, ‘Capote’), Matt Craven (‘Crimson Tide’), Hannah Gross (‘Mindhunter’), Hanna Schygulla (‘Lili Marleen’) and Brendan Coyle (‘Noble’, ‘Downton Abbey’). The film was edited by IFTA Winning editor & director Emer Reynolds.

Reta Winters (Catherine Keener) has many reasons to be happy.  Suddenly, all the quiet satisfactions of her well-lived life disappear in a moment when her eldest daughter Norah (Hannah Gross) inexplicably drops out of college and is found on a Toronto street corner, pan-handling and refusing to speak, holding a cardboard sign reading GOODNESS.

‘Unless’ opens in Irish cinemas on March 16th and is being distributed by Eclipse Pictures.
