Irish Actress Amybeth McNulty Nominated for Canadian Screen Award
17 Jan 2018 : Nathan Griffin
Irish actress and Donegal native Amybeth McNulty has been named among the nominees for Best Actress Drama for the 6th Canadian Screen Awards. The nomination comes following her performance in Canadian-based Netflix Original series ‘Anne with an E’, which led the charge picking up 13 nominations in total.

This marks a significant milestone for the young Irish actress who made her Irish television debut on RTE’s four part mini-series ‘Clean Break’, and more recently appeared in 20th Century Fox’s ‘Morgan’, playing a younger Anya Taylor Joy in Luke Scott’s debut film.

The 15 year old also featured as the protagonist Agatha Raisin in Sky’s ‘Agatha Raisin: The Quiche of Death’, and as Sputnik in CBBC’s ‘The Sparticle Mystery’.

‘Anne With An E’ is a new take on L.M. Montgomery’s classic novel ‘Anne of Green Gables’, which follows the adventures of a young orphan girl living in the late 19th century, as she learns to navigate through her new life on Prince Edward Island.

Created and written by Moira Walley-Beckett (‘Breaking Bad’), the Canadian production has enjoyed a hugely successful first season, and boasts a strong female led cast and crew. Netflix has already confirmed the commissioning of a second season, increasing the second season episode count from 8 to 10.

Alongside McNulty, the show stars Geraldine James (‘Sherlock Holmes’), R.H. Thomson (‘Chloe’), Corrine Koslo (‘Better than Chocolate’), Dalila Bela (‘Once Upon A Time’), Aymeric Jett Montaz (‘Bellevue’), and Lucas Jade Zumann (‘Sinister 2’).

The show is executive produced by Miranda de Pencier, Moira Walley-Beckett, Sally Catto, Elizabeth Bradley, Alex Sapot, Debra Hayward, and Alison Owen.
