David Freyne’s ‘The Cured’ has won the coveted Best Horror Feature at the Fantastic Fest, America’s largest genre film festival. Located in Austin, Texas the Fantastic Fest ‘Best Horror Feature’ has an impressive list of previous winners with ‘The Babadook’ and It Follows’ some to name but a few.
Speaking on their win - David Freyne, director told IFTN:
"We are really honoured to have received the Best Horror Feature at Fantastic Fest, which has become such a wonderful platform for the best of genre cinema. It's a lovely nod for everyone who worked so hard to make The Cured and a great boost for the film so soon after its world premiere at TIFF. And we feel in incredibly good company, with past award winners including The Babadook, Demon and It Follows."
The film, which premiered at Toronto, is David Freyne’s feature directorial debut, and is set in a future where cured zombies are reintegrated into society. The film is produced by Rory Dungan and Rachael O’Kane for Tilted Pictures, and has already been picked up by IFC Films for North American distribution rights at TIFF earlier this year.
