IFB - Enhanced Production Funding for Female Talent

Following the announcement of its new funding initiatives for female talent, the Irish Film Board have announced the details for its enhanced production funding for feature film projects driven by Irish female writers and directors.

This enhanced support will be available from 29th September 2017. Applicants are advised to familiarise themselves with the guidelines for this initiative to ensure eligibility in advance of making a submission.

Guidelines

  • This production funding applies only to projects which qualify for Bord Scannán na hÉireann/Irish Film Board’s (IFB) Fiction Irish Production funding scheme (live action and animated feature films);
  • This production funding is available for Irish female talent only (resident or born in Ireland);
  • This production funding will be made available in addition to the amount/limits currently available as stated in the IFB’s Production Funding Guidelines
  • The maximum amount of enhanced production funding available to a project is €100,000 as follows:

 

  • €50,000 will be available to a project with a female Writer attached where the Writer is the originating and lead Writer. €25,000 will be available where a female Writer is part of the originating co-writing team.  A maximum of €50,000 is available for a project with multiple female Writers. Note this does not apply where a female Writer(s) is not the originating/lead Writer(s);
  • €50,000 will be available to a project with a female Director attached. €25,000 will be available where a female Director is part of a mixed gender co-directing team. A maximum of €50,000 is available for a project with multiple female Directors;
  • €100,000 will be available to a project with a female Writer/Director attached;

 

  • This funding will be available from 29th September 2017 (the next IFB production funding deadline) until further notice;
  • This funding will not be applied retrospectively. Projects already in receipt of a quantified offer of production finance from the IFB are not eligible. Projects in receipt of an unquantified offer of production finance from the IFB are eligible from 29th September 2017. 

 

Additional Notes:

 

  • As with all applications received by the IFB, each submission will be assessed utilising the IFB’s general Principles and Criteria with particular attention paid to the editorial strength of the screenplay, track record of the creative team, market appetite, feasibility of the production budget and finance plan as well as readiness for production.
  • The total IFB funding awarded (including this enhanced support) cannot exceed the IFB’s state sanctioned Regulations and Limits (in most cases 65% of the total budget). The total IFB funding awarded must comply with the IFB’s Admissible Irish Expenditure guidelines.

 

 

Applicants are advised to familiarise themselves with all information provided on the Funding Programme section of the IFB website in advance of making a submission which includes the general application process and upcoming deadlines.
