24 Jan 2017 : Laura Brennan
Congratulations to Irish Oscar 2017 nominee's Ruth Negga & Consolata Boyle.

Ruth is nominated for best performance by an actress in a leading role for 'Loving' and Consolata Boyle is up for best costume design for her work on 'Florence Foster Jenkins'.

'The Lobster' featuring Colin Farrell is nominated for Best Writing (Original Screenplay).

‘Kubo and The Two Strings’ which features voice talent by Donegal’s Art Parkison as Kubo is nominated for Best  Animated Feature Film alongside 'Moana', 'My Life As A Courgette', 'The Red Turtle' & 'Zootopia' .

There was disappointment for Irish cinematographer and BAFTA nominated Seamus McGarvey ‘Nocturnal Animals’ as he missed out on a nomination in the Best Cinematography category which included ‘Arrival’, ‘Moonlight’, ‘La La Land’, ‘Lion’ and ‘Silence’ featuring Liam Neeson.

The ‘Loving’ star Ruth Negga who has so far been nominated for a Best Actress Golden Globe and a BAFTA, following her presentation with the Rising Star Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival earlier this month for her role as Mildred Loving is nominated alongside; Natalie Portman 'Jackie', Emma Stone 'La La Land', Meryl Streep ‘Florence Foster Jenkins’ and Isabelle Huppert ‘Elle’ for best performance by an actress in a leading role.

Oscar-winning and nominated Academy members including Jennifer Hudson, Brie Larson, Emmanuel Lubezki, Jason Reitman and Ken Watanabe joined Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs to reveal the 89th Oscars nominations, this afternoon Tuesday, January 24th.

In a departure from the tradition of a live audience at the Academy, this year's nominations were announced via a global live stream on Oscar.com

The 89th Oscars will take place on Sunday February 26th at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and will be hosted by American talk show host Jimmy Kimmel.
