RTÉ Entertainment Call for New Commissioning Ideas
09 Dec 2016 : Laura Brennan
RTÉ Entertainment is now commissioning ideas for both RTÉ One and RTÉ2. In particular they are seeking a big new Factual Entertainment series for Autumn 2017 to broadcast on RTÉ2.

If you have a strong idea for a returnable series to capture the 15 - 44 target audience, they are open to bought-in formats, live or pre-recorded, that already have resonance with an audience, or strong fresh and exciting Irish formats.

They are looking for big ideas that have real cut through and innovation at their heart and that most importantly capture a slice of contemporary Ireland. Key determinants behind the successful idea will be casting, talent, format and subject matter. The preference is for constructed format – ‘The Apprentice’, ‘The Island’, ‘First Dates’ - rather than straight-forward Factual.

Entertainment on RTÉ One provides shared experiences for the nation on a regular basis from mainstream in house productions such as ‘The Late Late Show’, ‘The Ray D'Arcy Show’ to contemporary large scale commissions like ‘The Voice’ and ‘Ireland's Fittest Family’. The challenge is to continue to serve and provide engaging, relevant and entertaining content for a core audience who watch output in huge numbers, while looking to attract new, younger viewers, particularly in the 25 - 44 year old age groups.

While talent shows, chat shows and one off events are the cornerstones of RTÉ One Entertainment, they are actively looking for fresh ideas for programming and to help create and develop indigenous formats.

Entertainment on RTÉ2 needs to be about contemporary, brave, relevant and exciting propositions aimed squarely at the very discerning 15 to 34 year old market. The RTÉ Entertainment Department is in the market for ideas for RTÉ2.

Ideas for both channels which have the ability to attract BAI Sound and Vision funding will be particularly attractive.

Please note RTÉ One and RTÉ2 will still consider single factual and pop docs for contestable slots on a rolling basis.

Closing date for submissions: 12 Noon - Monday 16th January 2017.
