‘A Date For Mad Mary’ Leads Irish Film London Winners
2016-11-17 8:00:00 : Katie McNeice
Chris Walley & Alex Murphy
Actress Tara Lee accepted the award for Best Film for Darren Thornton’s debut feature at the annual awards ceremony at the Irish embassy on Monday, November 14th.

Lee plays Jess in the Dublin-based drama, which sees ‘Mad’ Mary McArdle (Seana Kerslake) become determined to find a date to a friend’s wedding, following a brief spell in prison.

‘A Date For Mad Mary’ shared the award for Best Feature at the Galway Film Fleadh earlier this year with Peter Foott’s ‘The Young Offenders.’

Foott’s comedy also received the Súil Eile Award at the festival, which was accepted by lead actors Chris Walley and Alex Murphy. In addition Murphy was presented for the The Ros Hubbard Award for Acting, for his role as Conor.

Director Linda Bhreathnach of ‘Adulting’ accepted the award for Best Short Film, while Best Documentary went to ‘Fís na Fuiseoige’ and was accepted by Director Aodh Ó Coileái.

Angela Sammon, Festival Chairwoman:
"In the first year the festival screened 3 films. Six years later we’re the biggest international Irish Film Festival in the world. We now have 10 venues, a year-round programme, in this festival alone we have over 35 films, and over 30 Q&A guests, many of whom are flown in from around the world with the help of Culture Ireland."
