Pierce Brosnan to Receive Award from EFA

Pierce Brosnan to Receive European Achievement in World Cinema Award from European Film Academy.

Irish actor and producer Pierce Brosnan will receive the honorary award ‘in recognition of a rich and extensive career in front of the camera and behind the scenes as a producer’.

In addition to his work in front of the camera, Pierce Brosnan has also been producing films since 1998, when he launched his own production company Irish Dreamtime, and has produced 11 films to date including The Nephew (1998), The Match (1999), Evelyn (2002), Laws of Attraction (2004), The Matador (2005), Shattered (2007), The Greatest (2007), The November Man (2014). This year, he completed I.T. as producer and actor, which was filmed in Ireland and directed by John Moore.

Early roles included The Long Good Friday and The Mirror Crack'd (both 1980), before his foray into the world of television, in the 1981 ABC TV Mini-Series The Manions of America. Announced to America, Pierce secured the title role in the popular and hugely successful long-running detective series, Remington Steele in 1982.

He became the 5th James Bond in 1994 which made him a household name all over the world, reinvigorating the popularity of the Bond legacy by putting his own stamp on the coolly debonair 007 in the box-office blockbusters Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day. Die Another Day, which marked the 40th anniversary of Bond, and which was at the time the most successful Bond film ever, garnering almost half a billion dollars worldwide.

As an actor, Pierce Brosnan’s numerous film credits include his role as James Bond, other notable performances include The Tailor of Panama (John Boorman directing), The Thomas Crown Affair, (John McTiernan (1999)), The Fourth Protocol (John Mackenzie 1987), The Matador (Reichard Shepard 2005), opposite Liam Neeson in Seraphim Falls (directed by David Von Ancken 2006), the Love Punch (Joel Hopkins 2013), Mamma Mia (Phyllida Lloyd 2008), Love is All You Need (Susanne Bier 2012), and The November Man (Roger Donaldson 2014). Brosnan has recently completed production on The Foreigner (director Martin Campbell), and he is currently filming The Only Living Boy in New York (director Marc Webb).

The Irish Academy (IFTA) presented Brosnan with the Outstanding Irish Contribution to Cinema Award at it's annual ceremony in 2004.

Pierce Brosnan will be an honorary guest at the 29th European Film Awards Ceremony on 10 December in Wroclaw, European Capital of Culture 2016.
