Clones Film Festival which runs from October 27th-30th will announce the winners of its short film competitions on its closing night, who will also receive places on the course hosted by Barry Devlin and Daragh Carville.
The course takes place from November 4th-6th in the Armagh Public Library, as part of the inaugural John O'Connor Writing School in Armagh.
Carville is a playwright and screenwriter whose television credits include ‘Being Human’, ‘The Smoke’ and ‘6Degrees.’ He was nominated for an IFTA for Best Script for Film in 2007 for feature title ‘Middletown.’ His additional feature work includes ‘Cherrybomb’ which was nominated for Best Original Score in 2009.
He currently teaches scriptwriting at Birkbeck, University of London and brings an intensive, craft-based approach to writing for stage and screen to the course. He will focus on creating characters, structuring stories, effective dialogue and producing dramatically charged scenes.
Devlin likewise has a range of television and film credits to his name, from iconic Irish soap ‘Ballykissangel’ to comedy ‘A Kiss for Jed’ and a series of music documentaries centred on U2. His focus will turn to the practice of devising, pitching and writing a six-part series for television. This will cover choosing and shaping subject matter, managing story arcs and will also touch on elements such as casting.
