Kerry Film Festival Short Film Market

The annual festival kicks off this Wednesday in Killarney, Co. Kerry with a strong line-up of leading industry voices partaking in panel discussions, masterclasses and screenings scheduled for Short Film Market.

The day-long market takes place this Saturday, October 22nd at Killarney Plaza Hotel from 11am-4pm.

Festival Director Maeve McGrath, who was appointed in July of this year, will welcome speakers and attendees to the day, which is free of charge but must be booked in advance.

Directors Colm Quinn (Mattress Men) and Niamh Heery (A Father's Letter, Paused) will talk through the move from short films to documentary in a panel chaired by ‘Older Than Ireland’ helmer Alex Fegan.

‘Mattress Men’ is has represented Irish documentary in a standout festival run this year, including Hot Docs and Sheffield Doc/Fest.

Director Michael Creagh who received an Oscar nomination for his short film ‘The Crush’ will join Sundance winner Jim Cummings (Thunder Road) in a discussion on their journeys in short filmmaking so far. This discussion will be chaired by Festival Director Maeve McGrath.

IFTA CEO Áine Moriarty will also chair a panel entitled, ‘The Irish American Connection’ consisting of Judith Blackburn of Chicago Irish Film Festival, Niall McKay of Irish Screen America and Siobhan Fanning of Boston Irish Film Festival. Together they will discuss screening the diaspora.

The day will conclude with an IFTA Pie and Pint event at Killarney Brewing Company in association with IFTA.
