IFTA-winning scriptwriter Conor McPherson (The Eclipse) has penned the drama with UK director Alex Holmes set to direct in Northern Ireland from next month. It will air on BBC Two and is made with Cuba Pictures.
Denise Gough (Jimmy’s Hall) leads the cast as titular character and chemistry teacher Paula, whose fallout after a one night stand drives the three-part drama. Tom Hughes (Victoria) and Owen McDonnell (An Klondike) are also set to star.
Conor McPherson, Screenwriter:
“It’s a great pleasure to work with the BBC and Cuba Films on this series. Exploring new ways to tell stories is always an inspiring challenge and the opportunity to weave a drama across three evenings is one I have enjoyed immensely. The trust and freedom they have given me at every step is something every writer dreams about and the astonishing cast they have assembled couldn’t be more exciting."
Stephen Wright, Head of BBC NI Drama:
“Conor is one of Ireland’s leading dramatists, and we have always dreamed of working with him. It was a joy developing this story, and we cannot wait for Denise, Tom, Alex and the rest of the team to bring his world to life.”
