Belfast-based Fine Point Films is behind the hugely successful ‘Bobby Sands: 66 Days’ and the latest project on the life of acclaimed Northern Irish soccer player, George Best.
The film is directed by the award-winning Daniel Gordon, whose documentary credits also include ‘Match 64’ and ‘The Fall’, both of which engage with the lives of athletes.
‘George Best: All By Himself’ is set to screen as part of the BFI London Film Festivals’ Journey stream on Friday October 14th.
Irish titles also included in the line-up are Lorcan Finnegan’s ‘Without Name’, Darren Thornton’s ‘A Date for Mad Mary’ and ‘Young Offenders’ from Peter Foott. Producer Trevor Birney has said the project intends to present Best’s life story to an international audience. He has also stated:
"Our objective was to bring the story to another level through extended interviews with a number of high profile people, delving deeper into their relationship with Best through his periods of significant success - and also when suffering from his darkest moments from his alcoholism which defined most of his later life."
