Screen Training Ireland and Animation Skillnet are accepting applications until Monday September 5th.
The VFX and Animation Graduate Traineeship is a full-time programme for which a training allowance/bursary will be made available to selected participants.
The intensive six-month training programme will see graduates undergo a period of upfront training in addition to on-the-job and in the classroom. They will in turn be matched with leading animation, VFX and games studios and participate in tailored training through Animation Skillnet and Screen Training Ireland.
12 graduates took part in the pilot programme which saw gradates placed in animation and VFX studios for up to a year in addition to targeted training. Off-the-job included courses in Nuke, Maya, Houdini, Toon Boom Harmony, storyboarding, professional practice, and visual storytelling.
The participating studios were Brown Bag Films, JAM Media, Cartoon Saloon, Boulder Media, Windmill Lane VFX, Screen Scene VFX, Piranha Bar, Giant Animation, Treehouse Republic, Pink Kong Studios, Kavaleer and Kite Entertainment. The majority of the trainees were retained by their host studios, with the others going on to work in other studios.
Mark Shaw, trainee with Piranha Bar said:
“The traineeship programme has afforded me the chance to work with very skilled people in the industry and contribute to professional projects. I’ve learned a great deal, made contacts in the industry and built up a portfolio of work for my showreel. I feel that the traineeship has equipped me with on-the-job skills that I’ll need throughout my career.”
